The 1st Steamboat Stage Race – 2009

The first Steamboat Springs Stage Race came together in 2009 and filled the demand for a multi day pro-amateur road stage race in Colorado. Roughly 300 competitors turned out from across the region to compete in four days of racing including eventual pro winner Ben Day of the Fly V cycling team and pro mountain bike racer Alison Dunlap. The first stage race opened the eyes of many in Steamboat to what competitive road cycling was all about and how a multi-day cycling event could be a significant economic driver with racers staying in Steamboat 3+ night and frequenting restaurants, bike shops and other local businesses.
